MBA@UNC includes core courses and also elective courses, including the management and leadership elective: “Leading in the Middle”, which is also a popular elective in UNC’s residential MBA program. MBA@UNC blends top-20 ranked UNC Kenan-Flagler’s world-class curriculum, faculty and resources with the flexibility of online learning. Students network face-to-face with accomplished leaders, develop the insights to lead top organizations and earn the same degree as on-campus students.
Online cohorts of 15 are divided into 5 teams of 3 and after a 45 minute faculty led introduction, the remote/online teams prepare and then run the first half of the (2 hour total) simulation. One member is the lead player and using screenshare and via (Adobe connect) conference call teams make a series of business decisions whilst communicating with a diverse group of simulated stakeholders with differing priorities. After a midpoint instructor led review, the simulation is then completed with all teams taking part in a final 90 minute class, including a debrief where the Professor explains what happened in the simulation in the online meeting.
What professors and students see
“Since 2014, Prendo’s ‘Mutari’ simulation has been used in UNC’s online MBA program. Classes of 15 students are divided into 5 teams, and working remotely, these teams of 3 students complete the simulation exercise in 2 separate sittings of about 1 hour.”
